Two games on the same night, 30 miles apart!
Tonight saw our Year 5 Football team travel to Wilberfoss, near York, to play in their final group game of the East Riding Football League.
On arrival, Mr Inns was met by a smiling Mr Henderson (former Headteacher of DJS) and torrential rain!
The team played 2 games of 25 minutes.
In the first game, we battled hard after going one down early on. With great team spirit and a change in positions, our super sub came on to equalise with a few minutes to go. The game finishing 1-1 and a good result for the boys.
In the second game, we found it hard, going 2-0 down with the rain hammering down! You could tell cricket season is approaching! However, an even greater comeback was about to happen. Within a few minutes of another tactical substitution, we scored one, then another and finally the winner, to finish the game victorious, as the opposition ran out of strength as hyperthermia set in!
That leaves the Year 5 team top of their group having won 4 and drawn 2 of their games. We will now have to wait until all the other games are complete (no other school has played another game except against us) to see if we qualify for the East Riding Finals.
Whilst all this was going on, the Year 6 team were playing their penultimate games of the East Riding Football League against Bugthorpe PS from near Stamford Bridge.
The Year 6 team comfortably beat Bugthorpe in both games (10-0) and (8-0) and now only have Wilberfoss PS to play (possibly our strongest opponents so far), hopefully next week at home. The team currently stand in first position in their group having won all 6 games. No other schools having played any fixtures in our group.
Many thanks to both sets of parents for their support and transport of children to and from games. A big thanks also to Mrs Harrison and Mrs Robinson (who helped with the Year 6 team) and Mr Wilkinson for refereeing.
Pictured are our Y6 coaching team and Y6 footballers. No technology would work at Wilberfoss - even the referees stop watch was saturated and broke.
Regards
Mr Inns
