On Tuesday, Driffield Junior School played their first away game of the Humberside Schools Under 11 Cup, travelling to play Christopher Pickering PS at Sirius Academy West in East Hull.
It was a tense Quarter Final after having two easy games against Eastrington PS and Elloughton PS in the previous rounds.
Driffield went 1-0 down early on as a result of an uncharacteristic goalkeeping error. A further goal put the team 2-0 down after 10 minutes. The loss of our goalkeeper to a knee injury also put pressure on the boys. However, a good team spirit saw Driffield fight back and draw level, with the score tied at half time.
Christopher Pickering scored early on in the second half. Two of their players, who were on Hull City's Academy, showing class in their passing, tackling and game awareness.
However, Driffield soon equalised, then moments later took the lead for the first time in the game. A further goal put the score 5-3 in Driffield's favour. Despite further pressure, Driffield finished the stronger with everyone contributing to the success and qualification for the Semi Finals later in the term. A great team performance!
